Gott im Himmel!

I just opened up a news feed and saw pictures of a 6-year-old Ukrainian girl on an ambulance gurney, she and her father covered in blood while they EMTs fought to get her to a hospital and save her life. She had been shopping in a supermarket in the Ukrainian city of Mariupol when the Russians shelled the place with artillery, and she was wounded by shrapnel and debris. Supermarkets in the Ukraine are vital military targets. Just ask any Russian commander.
The girl died.
A week or so ago a 5-year-old Moroccan boy fell into an abandoned desert well in his village. There is no public water supply in rural Morocco and villagers must cover up old wells and keep drilling new wells to get a water supply for people, crops and animals.
The boy spent five days in the cold and dark confines of the well while workers sent him oxygen, water and food and feverishly dug a relief well to reach him. What went through the poor boy’s mind while he waited for rescue? We’ll never know, because when workers finally reached him, he was dead.
Hardly a week passes by when the news doesn’t report an infant being shot and killed by a stray bullet, a mother or father killing their spouse and then killing all of their children in spite, or some madman perpetrating a mass killing in a school or workplace.
All of which leads me to some inescapable conclusions:
1. There really is a God, but
2. He is no better than the worst us, and
3. He is definitely a “He.” No all-knowing, loving, wise and omnipotent woman would EVER allow this shit to happen on Her watch!
